The pandemic has changed everything we took for granted just a few months ago. Some of those changes may be for the good, if we manage them properly.
For instance, many Noosa residents have begun to question whether the race towards higher and higher tourism numbers (fed in part by the Airbnb phenomenon) may be self-defeating and AGAINST the interests of those who actually live here.
The pandemic presents both risks and opportunities for tourism in Noosa; risks of even greater road congestion and low-spending tourism as international travel is replaced by domestic tourists, and opportunities to re-assess whether our priorities are being determined by industry lobbies or by the broader interests of residents.
